Two Top Ten Finishes Lead Men’s Cross Country to Third-Place Finish

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's cross country team had two finishers in the top team, recording 73 points for a third-place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Preview on Saturday morning. Senior Jack Natali Jr. (Clayton, N.Y. / Thousand Islands) was the Cardinals' top runner, finishing in eighth with a mark of 28:09.5, besting his previous mark in the 8K in his first outing on the Rugar Woods 8K course.

In the team standings, the Cardinals finished ahead of fourth-place Remparts (109), fifth-place Potsdam (146), and sixth-place Clinton CC (166). Cortland took home first-place, recording 23 points, while Oneonta finished second with 55 points.

Junior Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) was the next Cardinal across the line, coming in right behind Natali Jr. in ninth with a time of 28:15.9, a new personal best in the 8K as he also ran the Rugar Woods 8K course for the first time. Next was junior Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus), coming in at 17th (29:51.6).

Sophomore Brody Serfass (Endwell, N.Y. / Maine Endwell) and first-year Jackson Morse (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna) finished back-to-back to round out the scoring group. Serfass placed 19th (9:58.4) and Morse placed 20th (30:31.8) in both of their first collegiate 8K races.

To close out the top seven runners, first-years Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) and Bryton Mandigo (Hartford, N.Y. / Hartford) earned 25th (30:55.0) and 26th (30:55.0) place finishes, respectively.

Other runners of note included first-year Griffin Leary (Pearl River, N.Y. / Clarkstown South), who ran the first 8K race of his collegiate career, finishing with a time of 31:32.7.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sept. 20 for the Hoffmann Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence.
