PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, has announced the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Comprising the Hall of Fame's 40th induction class are Earl Burnell '65 (baseball, men's soccer, track and field, and wrestling), Allison Era '14 (women's ice hockey), Chris Fess '94 (men's ice hockey), Dan Schaly '93 (men's ice hockey), Geoff Spear '85 (posthumous inductee, assistant men's and women's soccer coach), Timothy Stanley '07 (men's soccer), and Amy Woo '10 (softball).
The annual induction ceremony and dinner will be held on Friday, September 26, in the Warren Ballroom at the Angell College Center on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus at 6 p.m. Seats for this year's event are $30 per person ($15 for children under the age of 12), and those interested in attending the ceremonies should register by Sept. 18 at

Although
Earl Burnell never played soccer before joining the Plattsburgh State men's soccer program in 1963, after just one season, he became one of the Cardinals' top players. The Plattsburgh, N.Y., native was named First-Team All-State and NSCAA Second-Team All-Region in his second season of competing in soccer in 1964. Burnell enjoyed successful seasons competing for the track and field and baseball teams, setting the school record in the long jump in 1964, which stood for years, as well as earning three wins on the mound.
Allison Era was a premier defender for the Cardinals' women's ice hockey team, helping lead them to a national title in 2013-14 and back-to-back ECAC West championships in 2012-13 and 2013-14. During the team's national championship run, she was named to the NCAA Division III All-Tournament Team, the ECAC West All-Tournament Team, and First-Team All-ECAC West in addition to finishing the season as an AHCA Second-Team All-American. The Glendale, Ariz., native also earned D3hockey.com First-Team All-America and First-Team All-USCHO accolades and ranks second in program history in points among defenders with 91.
Chris Fess enjoyed a successful career while competing for the Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team, as he was a member of the program's NCAA Division III national championship team in 1992. He finished his career as a two-time All-SUNYAC honoree and was also named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team. In the program's record books, the Buffalo, N.Y., native is tied for second all-time in game-winning goals with 14 and tied for fifth in power-play goals with 30 while ranking eighth in career goals with 87. Fess holds the single-season program record for shorthanded goals with eight.
Dan Schaly starred as a forward during his three years as a Cardinal, helping the men's hockey program win the NCAA Division III national championship in 1992. He was a three-time All-SUNYAC honoree, earning first-team laurels twice and second-team plaudits once. The Barre, Ontario, native, who was also named the SUNYAC Player of the Year in 1991-92, finished his career with 80 goals and 161 points, ranking 11th and 16th in those categories, respectively, in the program's record book.
The story of Plattsburgh State men's soccer undoubtedly couldn't be told without mentioning
Geoff Spear, who was a fixture on the Cardinal sidelines for the past four decades and played a critical role in conference, regional, and national success attained by the team. All told, he spent a total of 29 years as an assistant coach with the men's soccer program, helping Plattsburgh State win seven SUNYAC championships and qualify for the NCAA Division III Tournament on nine occasions. For the past seven seasons, he has also lent his expertise to the Cardinals' women's soccer program as a goalkeeping coach, helping Plattsburgh State make five SUNYAC Tournament appearances.
When the dust settled at the end of his career,
Tim Stanley was a three-time All-Region and All-SUNYAC honoree, earning First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-SUNYAC honors in 2004 as well as First-Team All-SUNYAC recognition in 2005. The Newport, Vt., native helped Plattsburgh State capture a SUNYAC championship and advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2005, its best NCAA postseason finish in program history. Stanley, who was an NSCAA Second-Team All-American and was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team in 2004, concluded his career with 93 points, tallying 38 goals and 17 assists.
Amy Woo competed as a standout player on the Plattsburgh State softball team, leading the Cardinals to an NCAA Regional Championship and their first College World Series appearance in 2007 while being named to the NCAA World Series All-Tournament Team. She earned Third-Team All-America plaudits in 2008 and collected two All-Region honors, two All-SUNYAC laurels, and two All-ECAC Upstate kudos. Woo was the Plattsburgh State Female Athlete of the Year in 2008-09 and is second all-time in the program's record book in runs (124), hits (185), and home runs (18). The Calgary, Alberta, native was also an outstanding student, as she was named the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2008 and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
