CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team is set to compete at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, at Cortland's Stadium Complex.
SUNYAC CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY: Led by fourth-year head coach
Andrew Krug, the Cardinals are looking to climb the conference standings after Plattsburgh State finished sixth out of nine teams at last year's meet. Geneseo, who had won seven straight outdoor track and field championships, departed the conference, meaning a new champion will be crowned for the first time since 2016, a year in which Oneonta was the champion. Brockport, who also departed the SUNYAC, finished second and was followed by Cortland in last year's championship meet. Teams competing this year include several new schools, such as Alfred State, Morrisville, Penn State Behrend, SUNY Cobleskill, and SUNY Delhi, which will be a part of their first SUNYAC outdoor championships.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS: The Cardinals are led by last year's 800-meter run champion in junior
Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon), who is now competing in the 400-meter dash and owns the top-seeded time by nearly a full second at 58.43. She will look to anchor the 4x400-meter relay team, who own the second-seeded time of 4:08.02, as they will look for the sweep of 2024-25 championships after winning the race at the indoor meet. Junior
Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) has two seed marks that rank in the top four of the respective events, as she enters the weekend as the second seed in the 5,000-meter run (18:37.26) and the fourth seed in the 1,500-meter run (4:54.04). First-year
