2024-2025 Women's Tennis All-SUNYAC Teams

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
— Four members for the Plattsburgh State women's tennis team earned 2024-25 All-State University of New York Conference (SUNYAC) accolades, as junior Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and senior Hallie Hurwitz (Beekmantown, N.Y./Beekmantown) earned First Team All-SUNYAC honors at 2nd Doubles, and seniors Sophia Gottschall (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Megan Phelps (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) were each named to the All-SUNYAC Second Team at singles and doubles.

These are the first conference honors for each individual, as Gottschall and Phelps were honored as All-SUNYAC Second Team selections for third doubles. Gottschall was a second team fourth singles selection as well, and Phelps earned second team sixth singles plaudits. The quartet is the first All-SUNYAC selections since Nicole Svantner was the lone honoree in 2022-23.

Cantwell and Hurwitz are the first first-team selections at doubles for Plattsburgh since Rukshana Abdeen and Sarah Hoeffner did so in 2019. The pairing had a 5-4 record at No.2 Doubles, and were also 2-2 in conference play and 5-5 overall.

In singles action this season, Gottschall had a 6-5 mark at fourth singles, a 1-3 conference record, and an overall record of 7-6. Overall, Phelps was 6-5 in singles play this season, as well as 4-4 at sixth singles and 1-3 in conference action. Together, the pair had a record of 5-4 overall, posting a 1-3 conference record and a 5-4 record at No. 3 doubles.

Justin Stanejko of New Paltz was named the Peter J. Cahill MVP for the third straight season, Taylor Plue of Oneonta was tabbed the Rookie of the Year, Stanejko and Isabel van der Veen of New Paltz were named Doubles Team of the Year, and New Paltz head coach Rob Bruley was named the Coach of the Year.

The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team finished the season 7-6 (2-3 SUNYAC) and competed in the SUNYAC tournament for the first time since 2017. The team fell in the semifinals to eventual champion New Paltz, who did not lose a single set all season against a conference opponent.
