Women's Track and Field Travels to Staten Island for Fastrack National Invite

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team competed at the Fastrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday. The team had several personal bests set on a fast track amongst competitors from every division across the NCAA and outside of it.

Junior Marissa LeDuc (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) had two career best showings, first in the 60-meter hurdles where she clocked in with a time of 9.84 seconds, and also in the long jump, where she leapt 5.16 meters. Both nearly gave the junior regional qualifying marks. First-yaer Lexi McDonald (Altona, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) also competed in the 60-meter hurdles and posted a time of 10.47 seconds.

The 400-meter event saw four Cardinals race, and junior Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) recorded a new personal best, with a time of 1:01.35. Close behind was the first-year trio of Emma Mahoney (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport), Brianna Wise (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna), and Isabella Scott (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) who each had times within 1:03.

Sophomore Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) shattered her previous personal best in the mile run, shaving off over eight seconds with her new PR of 5:30.11. Junior Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) also shattered a previous personal best with her new time int eh 3,000-meter run, taking off over 20 seconds with a 10:47.64 mark. Senior Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) finished with an 11:01.68 time in the 3,000-meter run, and first-year Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y./Frankln Academy) finished with a time of 2:38.49 in the 800-meter run.

Sophomore Taygin Jump (Coupeville, N.Y./Coupeville) and Harmony Sanders (Geneseo, N.Y./Geneseo) each competed in the shot put and weight throw, with each posting top 40 results in their respective events.

The Cardinals are next in action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and 15 at Nazareth for the DIII Elite Meet for qualifiers only.
