Women's Track and Field Hosts and Competes in Annual Home Meet

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team competed in the Plattsburgh State Tuesday Track & Field Meet on Tuesday evening, as seven Cardinals were victors on their home track. For the third straight year, Plattsburgh State was able to host their lone meet of the year, competing once again against St. Lawrence and Potsdam with the Royal Military College-Saint Jean joining the teams this year.

Junior Marissa LeDuc (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) won two events on Tuesday, winning the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.13 seconds and winning the high jump clearing 1.43 meters. First-year sprinter Lexi McDonald (Altona, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) was the 55-meter dash winner, with a time of 7.81 seconds, also earning a second-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles behind LeDuc at 9.76 seconds. First-year Isabella Scott (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) won the 300-meter dash, posting a time of 45.16 seconds and sophomore Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) won the 600-meter event with a mark of 1:48.73.

Sophomore Taygin Jump (Coupeville, Wash./Coupeville) had the farthest throw of the day in the weight throw at 12.97 meters, while first-year Harmony Sanders (Geneseo, N.Y/Geneseo) had the best toss in the shotput at 9.30 meters. First-year Tessy Huntley (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) was not too far behind Jump with her toss in the weight throw of 11.88 meters that gave her a third-place finish.

Other notable finishes came in a variety of events, highlighted by first-year Kasey Eaton (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) who had two second place finishes. Eaton was second in the 55-meter dash at 7.91 seconds and in the 200-meter dash at 29.24 seconds. Right behind Eaton in the 55-meter event was sophomore Deja Davis (Bronx, N.Y./Paul Robeson) at 7.99 seconds for third place. First-year Brianna Wise (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) was second in the 300-meter race at 45.33 seconds, and first-year Emma Mahoney (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) was also second but in the 400-meter dash with her mark of 1:06.17.

In the distance events, the Cardinals had four top three finishes, led by junior Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) and Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) who finished second and third in the mile, with times of 5:31.06 and 5:35.99, respectively. First-year Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) placed third in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:54.01 and Lexie Rostak (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) was second in the 1000-meter run with her time of 3:34.50.

The team will next be in action on Friday, Feb. 7 for the Fastrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility for those who qualify.
