Women's Track and Field Places Second at SLU Open

CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team wrapped up their 2024-25 regular season on Friday at the SLU Open, earning a second-place finish with 133 points.

St. Lawrence won the meet with 167 points, while Potsdam was third and Mohawk Valley Community College was fourth.

Sophomores Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Taygin Jump (Coupeville, Wash./Coupeville) each earned first-place finishes and career-best marks to lead the Cardinal effort on Friday. Estus posted a time of 2:28.80 to earn first in the 800-meter run. Jump threw 13.58 meters in the weight throw, a new career best, for the event win, and then placed third in the shotput with a 9.51-meter toss. 

Junior Marissa LeDuc (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) had three second-place finishes, first in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.91-second race. She then was second in the shotput with a 9.89-meter throw and finally was second in the high jump clearing 1.37 meters.

First-year Isabella Scott (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) earned two second-place finishes on Friday, placing as runner-up in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash with two new career-best marks. Scott ran a time of 8.40 seconds in the 60 and then ran 28.34 seconds in the 200. Fellow first-year Lexi McDonald (Altona, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) had two top-three finishes, posting career bests in both events. In the 60-meter dash, McDonald was third with a time of 8.48 seconds and then was also third in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.46 seconds.

Junior Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) placed second in the 400-meter run with a new career-best time of 1:00.94 and then was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.53 seconds. First-year Emma Mahoney (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) also compete in the 400-meter event, placing third with her time of 1:04.16.

First-year Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) competed in the 800-meter run against her teammate Estus and placed third, with a time of 2:38.68. First-year Tessy Huntley (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) was third in the weight throw with her toss of 11.64 meters. Senior Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) was third in the mile with a time of 5:31.18. First-year Anni Schneider (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) was also third in her respective event, clearing 1.27 meters in the high jump.

In the final individual race of the night, Lexie Rostak (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) was second in the 3,000-meter run with her time of 11:57.61, while Ella Stuttard (Oriskany Falls, N.Y./Waterville) was third with her mark of 12:06.75.

The 4x400-meter relay team of LeRoy, first-year Jillian Head (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern), junior Kailyn Ginter (Northville, N.Y./Northville), and sophomore Julia Robinson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) placed third with a time of 5:01.91.

The Cardinals will next compete at the SUNYAC Championships on Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, Mar. 1 at SUNY Brockport. The team will only bring qualifiers, which for most events would be the top 20 marks this season.
