ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team t traveled to Rochester, New York for the DIII Elite Meet at Nazareth College on Friday, competing in the first day of the two-day event.
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) took home the top time of the day in the 60-meter dash prelims, putting forth an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark of 6.96 seconds as he enters tomorrow as the top seed in the 60-meter dash finals. In the same event,
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) just missed out on the final with an 11th-place finish and a run of 7.17 seconds.
Justin Rushia (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg) also raced in the 60-meter prelims, putting up a new personal best time of 7.26 seconds.
In the long jump,
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) had a near AARTFC mark with his 6.61-meter jump, just off the qualifying standard of 6.65 meters. The jump netted him an eighth-place finish, while
Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) had a career-long jump of 6.38 meters to finish 13
th. Baker also competed in teh 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 27th with a time of 9.40 seconds.
Denali Rodriguez-Garnica (Moriah, N.Y./Port Henry) raced in the 5000-meter run and placed 21
st with a time of 16:43.92.
The team's 4x400-meter relay team of
Christian Barjon (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland),
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall),
Joshua Gaboriault (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac), and
Jack Gregory (Guidlerland, N.Y./Guilderland) competed on Friday, posting an eighth place finish with a time of 3:43.
The Cards will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. as they compete in Day Two of the DIII Elite Meet.
