One of the most decorated goalies in the storied history of the Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey program,
Sydney Aveson helped backstop the Cardinals to their third-ever national championship during her senior season in 2013-14. She was a three-time AHCA First-Team All-America selection, a two-time ECAC West Goalie of the Year honoree and was named the NCAA Division III Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2013-14 following a national championship game in which she made 37 saves in a 9-2 win over Norwich. The West Covina, Calif., native, who also helped the Cardinals win ECAC West championships in 2012-13 and 2013-14, remains the single-season program record holder in goals-against average (0.57, 2013-14), save percentage (.977, 2013-14) and saves (583, 2011-12).
Few have had more of an impact on the Plattsburgh State women's volleyball program than
Rosilyn Cummings, whose presence on the court led the Cardinals to one of the best seasons in team history in 2013. After earning Second-Team All-SUNYAC East Division honors in 2011 and 2012, she capped off her career with a senior season that saw her earn AVCA Honorable Mention All-America, AVCA All-New York Region, SUNYAC Player of the Year and First-Team All-SUNYAC honors. The Plattsburgh, N.Y., native, who also earned SUNYAC All-Decade Team recognition and a spot on the 2013 SUNYAC All-Tournament Team, ranks second in program history in career kills with 1,183.
Bart Misiak anchored a stout back line during his tenure as a Cardinal men's soccer student-athlete, and during his senior season in 2010, he helped guide Plattsburgh State to a SUNYAC championship. The Mississauga, Ontario, native earned NSCAA First-Team All-America honors in 2009 and NSCAA Third-Team All-America recognition in 2008, and he was awarded the SUNYAC Huntley Parker Award that is given to the conference's player of the year in 2009. Misiak was a four-time NSCAA All-Region honoree and a three-time First-Team All-SUNYAC selection; earned a spot on the SUNYAC All-Decade Team; and garnered Plattsburgh State Male Athlete of the Year distinction in 2009-10.
When the dust settled on her storied women's basketball career,
Kathleen Payne etched her name among the greatest student-athletes to ever don a Cardinal jersey. She helped guide Plattsburgh State to its first SUNYAC championship during the 2013-14 season, a year in which she also was named the SUNYAC Player of the Year and an Honorable Mention All-American as named by the WBCA and D3hoops.com. The Goshen, N.Y., native was a three-time First-Team All-SUNYAC honoree, a two-time SUNYAC All-Tournament Team recipient and a D3hoops.com First-Team All-Region choice in 2013-14. Payne, who also was named to the SUNYAC All-Decade Team and earned the 2013-14 Plattsburgh State Female Senior Achievement Award, is the program's all-time leader in scoring (1,722) and rebounding (759) and owns the top two scoring seasons in program history (569 points in 2013-14 and 476 points in 2011-12).
Stefanie (Braun) Thompson enjoyed a distinguished running career while competing for the Cardinals, qualifying for the NCAA Championships three times in cross country and outdoor track and field and two times in indoor track and field. She capped off her cross country career in 2011 with an All-America finish (15th) at the national meet in addition to winning both the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional and SUNYAC championships that season. The Dix Hills, N.Y., native was a four-time All-Region honoree in cross country, a three-time outdoor SUNYAC champion in the 10,000-meter run, a two-time indoor SUNYAC champion in the 5,000-meter run and part of the SUNYAC-champion distance medley relay team during the indoor championships in 2012. Braun was named the Plattsburgh State Female Athlete of the Year in 2011-12 and earned SUNYAC All-Decade Team recognition in cross country.
