MEET RESULTS
CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team opened up their 2024-25 indoor season at St. Lawrence in the Newell Field House on Saturday, finishing in second place amongst six total team competing. Junior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) led the way for the team in the Saints Holiday Relays, posting first place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the 300-meter dash.
Cypress posted an All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying time in the 60-meter dash, finishing with a time of 7.00 to just edge out his teammate
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) who finished in second with a 7.05 mark. Cypress also posted a 35.54 second mark in the 300-meter dash, finishing ahead of the next closest sprinter by .17 seconds.
The Cardinals took second place at the meet, finishing behind St. Lawrence who scored 222.50 points with 145.50 points. Ottawa University finished in third place, Carleton was fourth, Potsdam was fifth, and the Ottawa Lions TF Club was sixth.
Other first place finishes came from sophomore
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) and first-years
Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y./Bouquet Valley) and
Nathan Webber (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac). Ritter took the top spot in the long jump with a mark of 6.33 meters, while Hooper was the top finisher in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters on his third and final attempt. Webber had the best throw of the day in the shotput, with his fifth attempt giving him a mark of 11.93 meters. Webber also placed third in the weight throw, posting a throw of 12.11 meters.
First-year
Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.99 seconds to begin his collegiate career in solid fashion. Senior
Denali Rodriguez-Garnica (Port Henry, N.Y./Moriah) took home a third-place finish in the mile run, posting a 4:42.18 mark, good for a collegiate best for distance runner. Senior
De'Andre Watson (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) also finished third, recording a jump of 11.49 meters in the triple jump to begin his second season with Plattsburgh.
The men's 4x200-meter relay team of Cypress, Williams,
Justin Rushia (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg), and
Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) were second in their race, posting a time of 1:37.53.
The Cardinals are next in action after the new year, as they head to the Middlebury Winter Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 18.
