OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's cross country team competed at the 2024 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship on Saturday at Fallbrook Recreation Center in Oswego, New York, finishing in fifth place. Senior
Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y. / Wells) placed 10
th to lead Plattsburgh earning herself SUNYAC All-Conference Second Team honors with her performance.
Plattsburgh State finished in fifth with 138 points, finishing ahead of Fredonia, Morrisville, Potsdam, Buffalo State, and Canton. Cortland won the team title, their 17
th overall championship. The Cardinals next compete at the NCAA Division III Mideast Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Connecticut College.
Smith earned All-SUNYAC honors with her 10
th-place finish, timing in at 24:46.5.
Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) was the next Cardinal across the finish line with a mark of 26:15.6 good enough for 25
th place in her first SUNYAC Championship race.
Lillian Moran (Albany, N.Y. / Colonie Central) and
Ella Stuttard (Oriskany Falls, N.Y. / Wells) came in at 38
th and 41
st place with times of 26:54.9 and 27:05.4 respectively. Not far behind was
Isabelle Cunningham (Bethlehem, N.Y. / Bethlehem) with a mark of 27:13.2 placing 43
rd to round out the Cardinals' top five runners.
The next Cardinals to come across were
Ginny Lucchetti (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) and
Jillian Head (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) as the sixth and seventh runners respectively. Lucchetti recorded a time of 28:05.5 for 43
rd place while Head recorded a new personal record with a 30:35.1 mark placing 70
th in her first SUNYAC Championship race.
