CANTON, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State men's cross country took a second-place finish at the 31st Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational, competing at St. Lawrence on Saturday morning. The team had two top-five finishes as several runners had personal bests on the St. Lawrence cross-country course.

For Plattsburgh, the team finished with 51 points, behind only St. Lawrence who had 26 points in first place. Ottawa, Clarkson, Canton, and Potsdam each finished behind the Cardinals in the 8k race.

The Cards are back in action in two weeks, on Oct. 7, when they head to Westfield State for the James Earley Invitational, as the team will get to preview the course that will host the Mideast Regional Championships in November.

Noah Bonesteel (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) and Graham Richard (Albany, N.Y./Albany) finished fourth and fifth, respectively as the first two Cardinals to finish. Bonesteel improved by nearly 30 seconds on his time in last year's race, posting a time of 26:39.4, while the first-year Richard finished in 26:48.8 in his first career race on the course.

Jeremy Gundrum (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park) had a great race for the Cards, coming in with a time of 27:21.0, good for a third-place finish within the Plattsburgh group and 17th overall. Right behind Gundrum was Michael Brockway, whose time of 27:28.2 was a personal record for him on the course. Justin Kumrow was the fifth Cardinal to finish, besting his time at St. Lawrence last year with a mark of 27:52.6 for a 23rd-place finish. Erik Kucera (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) earned a 25th-place finish for Plattsburgh, essentially matching his time in this invite last year with a 28:22.9 finish.

Sean Grady (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) was the seventh Plattsburgh runner to finish, coming in with a time of 30:24.2, putting him in 41st place. Right behind him in consecutive finishes were Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and Evan Howe (Peru, N.Y./Peru) who posted times of 30:25.4 and 30:32.5 respectively.
