Men's Cross Country Finishes 5th at James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass
. – The Plattsburgh State men's cross country earned a fifth-place finish at the 27th James Earley Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7, competing against 24 teams in their respective race. The Cardinals were able to get a preview of the course that will host the NCAA Division III Mideast Region Championships on Nov. 11th, as they scored 197 points in the race and were able to familiarize themselves with a technical course.

Plattsburgh State will next race at the Connecticut College Invitational on Oct. 14th, the team's final meet before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships on Oct. 28th.
The team combined for a total time of 2:15:09.06 on the 8k course and averaged 27:01.82 on the course between all of their runners.

The Cardinals' fifth-place finish was highlighted by Graham Richard (Albany, N.Y./Albany), who was the first Plattsburgh runner to complete the course, earning a 12th-place finish with a mark of 26:09.32. Noah Bonesteel (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) registered a 25th-place finish as the next Cardinal across, coming with a time of 26:25.05. Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) earned a 40th overall finish as he nearly bested his personal record (PR) with a time of 27:05.25 in the 8k race.

Jeremy Gundrum (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park) continued to race well for Plattsburgh, as he was the fourth Cardinal to finish with a time of 27:39.32 to place 63rd overall. Erik Kucera (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) wasn't too far behind his senior counterpart, slotting into the 70th overall spot with a mark of 27:50.12. Peter Basile (Castleton-On-Hudson, N.Y./Maple Hill) and Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) rounded out the Cardinals' top seven runners, finishing with times of 28:39.37 and 29:26.10, respectively, on an unfamiliar course. Evan Howe (Peru, N.Y./Peru) was the final Cardinal to compete on Saturday, posting a time of 29:42.76.
