NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Plattsburgh State men's cross country team competed at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, racing in two separate races that saw a non-result in the White Race and a 19th-place finish in the Blue Race. Overall, the Cardinals had personal records (PR) from a large number of their athletes, as they competed on a fast course against some strong competition.
With the completion of today's meet, Plattsburgh now turns its attention to postseason play, with the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships next up on the schedule on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Oneonta's Fortin Park.
In the men's 8,000-meter (8k) white race four athletes competed, leading to a non-result for the team. In the race,
Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) was the first Cardinal to finish, as the first-year posted a PR of 29:16.30. Right behind him with a personal-best as well was
Lukas McIntosh (Schodack Landing, N.Y./Maple Hill), who posted a time of 30:27.60. Finishing as well in the white race was
Sean Grady (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) and
Matthias Lauvau (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck), with times of 30:35.70 and 31:16.40.
In the men's 8000-meter blue race, the team compiled 507 points, finishing in 19
th place in a deep field of teams. First, across the line for the Cardinal finish line with a new season best was first-year
Graham Richard (Albany, N.Y./Albany) who bested his RPI Harvest Classic time by 13 seconds for his new PR, finishing in 25:41.60 for 54
th place. Behind him in pretty close succession were four runners, with
Noah Bonesteel (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) finishing in 105
th place with a time of 26:20.30,
Erik Kucera (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) in 122
nd place at 26:38.30,
Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) in 129
th at 26:42.00, and
Jeremy Gundrum (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park) I 138
th at 26:50.90. Kucera, Kumrow, and Gundrum each achieved PRs with their times.
Peter Basile (Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Maple Hill) was the 175
th runner across and the sixth Cardinal, timing in at 27:56.50. Behind him as the final runner to score for the Cards was
Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) who posted a PR of nearly a minute with his time on Saturday. The final Plattsburgh runner to finish was
Evan Howe (Peru, N.Y./Peru), who registered a time of 29:41.60, a new personal best for the junior in the 8k.
