PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation will honor the legacy of Title IX's impact at one home event per women's sport in 2022-23, beginning with women's cross country, women's soccer, women's volleyball and women's tennis this fall.
Women's cross country will be the first to honor the 50th anniversary of Title IX this fall when Plattsburgh State hosts the 40th annual Cardinal Classic on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 10:45 a.m. Prior to the start of the race at approximately 10:30 a.m., Plattsburgh State Athletics will honor several alumnae who are in attendance as a part of a Title IX celebration ceremony, and those alumnae will also serve as honorary starters for the race.
Women's tennis will hold its celebration on Friday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. against SUNY Cortland, while women's soccer will honor its alumnae in addition to the milestone anniversary of Title IX on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. against Cortland. Women's volleyball will round out the fall sports with its Title IX celebration on Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. against SUNY Oneonta.
Celebration events around winter and spring women's sport contests will be announced at a later date.
