Syracuse, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its 2022 annual baseball league awards on Monday, and first-year third baseman Kyle Cremin (Yorktown Heights, NY/Kennedy Catholic) was honored as a second-team selection at third base.
The Cardinals third baseman earned an All-SUNYAC Second Team selection after a fantastic first season in college, as he was among the conference's best in several categories. In the SUNYAC, Cremin finished tied for tenth in batting average, with a .372 mark. His 10 doubles put him in a tie for 14th in the conference, and his 42 hits were tied for 15th in the SUNYAC.
Overall, Cremin finished with an impressive .975 OPS, 42 hits, 21 RBI, 24 runs, 12 XBH, 19 BB, and just nine strikeouts. He finished tied for the team lead in hits, tied for the team lead in average, and was second among qualified individuals on the team in on-base percentage. Cremin was perhaps at his best when it mattered most, in conference play, where he finished with the top average on the team by over 20 points, with a .347 clip. He was also second in OPS, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage among those who qualified for Plattsburgh. His first collegiate homerun came in conference play as well, a two-run shot against New Paltz in game one of their conference series.
Cremin finished as the only first-year to receive All-SUNYAC honors in 2022 and is the first Plattsburgh third baseman to receive honors since 2010 when Donny Coolidge also made the second team. Cremin's selection has now made it five consecutive seasons a Cardinal has been selected for baseball all-conference honors, as Stephen Bryant was selected in 2021 and 2019, and Patrick Bryant was selected in 2018 and 2017.
Plattsburgh State Baseball finished at 21-19 and 7-11 in conference play in 2022, posting the first 20-win season since 2012 and also the first winning record overall since 2012. The team made the conference playoffs for the first time in ten years, taking on three nationally ranked teams and the top three ranked teams in Region II, losing both tournament games.
