CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team placed third out of six teams with 90 points at the St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletics Twilight Meeting on Saturday in the team's final tune-up before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships.
 
Junior Jessica Landman (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.91, senior Janyll Barber (Dannemora, N.Y./Saranac) won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.47 and sophomore Michaela Schaffer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) posted the top mark in the long jump (5.01 meters – 16' 5.25"). Both Barber and Schaffer broke meet records in their respective events.
 
Second-place finishes came from junior Mikayla Osmer (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) in the 100-meter hurdles (22.99), senior Kristen Boerke (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) in the high jump (1.40 meters – 4' 7") and senior Kristen Thomas (Islip, N.Y./Islip) in the 5,000-meter run (42:48.87), while third-place finishes came from first-year student Morgan Thompson (Porter Corners, N.Y./Corinth) in the 200-meter dash (28.12), first-year student Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) in the 5,000-meter run (20:06.75) and junior Jasmine Piper (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) in the hammer throw (38.86 meters – 127' 6").
 
In addition, Piper placed fourth in the javelin throw (27.19 meters – 89' 2"), while senior Kaitlyn Bjelko (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) took fourth in both the hammer throw (38.12 meters – 125' 1") and the shot put (11.32 meters – 37' 1.75"). First-year student Emma Ginnane (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) took fifth in the 1,500-meter run (5:59.80), while Piper placed fifth in the discus throw (33.09 meters – 108' 6").
 
Plattsburgh State next competes at the SUNYAC Championships from Friday-Saturday, May 6-7, at SUNY Brockport.
