ONEONTA, N.Y. — The sixth-seeded Plattsburgh State men's soccer team is set to travel to second-seeded Oneonta in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament Semifinal match at 1 p.m on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Red Dragon Field.

TICKET PRICING: General admission tickets are $5, while tickets for children ages 5-12 are $3. Children ages four and under and students from SUNYAC schools with valid identification will be admitted free of charge.

ABOUT THE SERIES: Plattsburgh State is 10-36-3 against Oneonta all-time, with games dating back to 1959. The Cardinals have not won against the Red Dragons since 2015, defeating Oneonta 1-0 on Oct. 10, 2015. In their last nine meetings, the Red Dragons have won eight of them, with a tie sandwiched in between back in 2018.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS: Plattsburgh State played to a 7-7-3 (2-4-3 SUNYAC) regular-season record in 2022, and with a win over New Paltz on Saturday are now 8-7-3 overall. Despite falling to New Paltz 1-0 at home in September, the Cardinals stunned the Hawks with three first-half goals and ultimately held on for a 3-2 SUNYAC First-Round Tournament win.

The Cardinal offense runs through sophomore midfielder Brian Coughlan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River), who produced a phenomenal season in his second year. With a goal and an assist in the SUNYAC Tournament First Round win, he now has 26 points on the year, the most for a Cardinal since Alexis Archilla produced 37 points (17 goals, three assists) in 2015. Coughlan now leads the SUNYAC in points and is tops in the league with 10 assists. Fellow sophomore midfielder John Hayes (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) and Juan Velez (Cuenca, Ecuador/Peekskill (NY)) were also very capable players on offense for the Cards, with Hayes producing five goals and two assists and Velez adding four goals and an assist in 2022.

The Cardinals' defense has been strong all year as Jack Healy (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River), Andrew Braverman (Sayville, NY/Sayville), Frankie Palumbo (Walkill, NY/Walkill), and Christian Garner (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) have registered the most minutes among field players and have been important to Coach Taylor's defensive scheme. After allowing two goals in Saturday's tournament win, teams are now averaging 1.33 goals per game against the Cards, totaling six shutouts this year.

In goal, sophomore Teddy Healy (Amityville, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) has now made 16 starts for the Cardinals, logging 1440 minutes this year. He has made 58 saves on the year, and has an even .500 record at 7-7-2 on the year.

In his fifth season at the helm, head coach Chris Taylor is making his second appearance in the SUNYAC semifinals, as his team defeated Buffalo State in 2019 at home, advancingd to the SUNYAC Championship game and losing to 10th-ranked Oneonta.

ABOUT THE RED DRAGONS: Oneonta (12-2-2, 6-2-1) will host the Cardinals this Wednesday after earning the second seed and getting a first-round bye in the SUNYAC Men's Soccer Tournament. They have been a dominant team at home, with a 9-1-1 record in 2022, and are also currently on a five-game win streak, which began when they defeated Plattsburgh 1-0 on Oct.15.

The Red Dragons, who were ranked as high as 14th in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) poll, are currently receiving votes nationally in the same poll. In the most recent iteration of the NCAA Regional Rankings released last week, Oneonta earned the second spot in Region 3, with only SUNY Cortland, the SUNYAC's top team this year, ranked ahead.

Oneonta has a fantastic duo offensively that they rely on for their offense in senior forward Lucas Fecci and first-year forward Milton Mancias-Magana. Fecci has 24 points on the year, as he capped off his season with a hat trick against nationally-ranked Cortland. Mancias-Magana has enjoyed as good of a first season as you could ask for, with the first-year registering eight goals and seven assists in 2022. Ethan Brunell has five goals for the team as well, with Joe Holder registering four goals for the Red Dragons.

Defensively, goalkeeper Nate Hanna has led a stout defensive effort for his team all season, posting a 12-2-2 record in goal. Despite only four shutouts, he has allowed just 15 goals all season, for a goals-against average of .95. As a team, they have allowed just .94 goals per game this year with Tristan Battistoni and John Bernardi leading a very strong defensive effort on the field.

WHAT'S NEXT: The winner of the Plattsburgh State and Oneonta game will play the winner of the Brockport and Cortland game on Saturday, Nov. 5 at a time to be determined for the SUNYAC championship. Brockport and Cortland played in the final game of the season for the conference's top seed, with Cortland earning the win and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. As the sixth seed, Plattsburgh will travel to whoever wins, if they also earn a win on Wednesday.
