PREBLE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's cross country team placed seventh out of nine teams at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships hosted by SUNY Cortland Saturday at Dwyer Memorial Park, posting a score of 166 points.
The Cardinals topped Buffalo State (217 points) and SUNY Potsdam (266 points), while Oswego State did not enter the minimum of five runners to register a team score.
First-year student
Noah Bonesteel (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) was the first Cardinal to cross the finish line, as he navigated the eight-kilometer course in 29:25.6 to take 33rd out of 99 runners. First-year student
Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and sophomore
Michael Brockway (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) finished in sequence, placing 38th (29:37.0) and 39th (29:37.4), respectively, while senior
Joe Yusaitis (Stillwater, N.Y./Stillwater) and junior
Jeremy Gundrum (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park) took 45th (29:59.3) and 46th (30:06.2), respectively. Junior
Liam Gildea (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) placed 57th (30:44.2) and first-year student
Daniel Pavelec (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) finished 62nd (30:55.1) to round out the Cardinals' top seven runners.
SUNY Geneseo won its 19th overall and seventh consecutive conference championship with a near-perfect score of 19 points. Senior Riley Grossman of Geneseo won the individual title with a time of 26:52.7.
Plattsburgh State next competes at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn.
