PREBLE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's cross country team appears poised to improve upon its eighth-place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships from 2019, as the Cardinals boast a strong contingent of runners competing at the 2021 edition of the conference meet, which will be hosted by SUNY Cortland at Harkness Memorial State Park on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m.
The Cardinals have raced the championship's eight-kilometer distance twice this year: once at the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational hosted by St. Lawrence University on Sept. 25 and most recently at the Fall Foliage Invitational hosted by the University of Vermont on Oct. 16.
Plattsburgh State has had three different runners who have led the way so far this season: first-year students
Noah Bonesteel (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park),
Daniel Pavelec (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) and junior
Jeremy Gundrum (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park). Sophomore
Michael Brockway (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) has been the Cardinals' second runner to cross the finish line in all three races in which he has competed so far this year, while others who have placed in the top seven across Plattsburgh State's four meets so far in 2021 include first-year student
Justin Kumrow (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), senior
Joe Yusaitis (Stillwater, N.Y./Stillwater), sophomores
Levi Sochia (Norfolk, N.Y./Norwood-Norfolk) and
Sean Grady (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington), first-year student
Ethan Hodge (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) and junior
Liam Gildea (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville).
