2018 Plattsburgh State Men's Soccer Schedule
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team has released its 2018 schedule, which will feature games against three teams that qualified for the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament.
Plattsburgh State went 13-7-1 overall (4-4-1 SUNYAC) in 2017 and advanced to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament championship game in the final season of head coach Chris Waterbury's storied 33-year tenure with the program. First-year head coach
Chris Taylor, a former Plattsburgh State standout, enters his first season at the reins of the program.
The Cardinals host the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic to open the season from Friday, Aug. 31-Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Field House Complex, taking on William Paterson University on Aug. 31 before squaring off with Springfield College on Sept. 1. Plattsburgh State visits The Sage Colleges on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will compete at the prestigious Mayor's Cup Tournament that weekend at SUNY Oneonta, taking on UMass Boston on Friday, Sept. 7, before matching up with St. Lawrence University on Saturday, Sept. 8. In its final games before the start of SUNYAC play, Plattsburgh State travels to Skidmore College (Wednesday, Sept. 12) and Clarkson University (Saturday, Sept. 15).
SUNYAC play opens at home against The College at Brockport (Friday, Sept. 21) and SUNY Geneseo (Saturday, Sept. 22), while the Cardinals visit North Country rival SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, Sept. 29. Plattsburgh State travels to Oswego State (Friday, Oct. 5) and SUNY Cortland (Saturday, Oct. 6) before returning home to entertain defending SUNYAC champion SUNY Oneonta (Oct. 12) and SUNY New Paltz (Oct. 13). A home non-conference game against SUNY Canton (Tuesday, Oct. 16) will precede the Cardinals' final games of the regular season at Buffalo State (Friday, Oct. 19) and Fredonia (Saturday, Oct. 20).
The top six teams in the final regular-season SUNYAC standings will qualify for the SUNYAC Tournament. The first round is set for Saturday, Oct. 27, while the semifinals are slated for Wednesday, Oct. 31. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, and the winner will earn the SUNYAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
