JOHNSON, Vt. - The Plattsburgh State tennis team began its season on Saturday with a 9-0 victory over Johnson State at JSC Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals swept doubles to start. The pairing of
Nadine Ciardulli (Massapequa, N.Y. / Plainedge High) and
Erin Wiggins (Manlius, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius Senior) blanked the Badgers 8-0 while
Kelci Henn (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) and
Sierra Barrett (Beekmantown, N.Y./Beekmantown) took an 8-1 decision and the duo of
Katie Kratovil (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) and
Shari Forman (Manhasset, N.Y. / Wellington C. Mepham) battled for an 8-5 win.
Plattsburgh State took all six singles matches to complete the sweep. Henn lost her first set but came back to take a 6-1 win followed by a 6-3 win. Forman won 6-2 and 6-0; Barrett won both sets 6-0, Wiggins went 6-2 and 6-1, Ciardulli won 6-2 and 6-0 and
Ashley Wilson (Little Neck, N.Y. / St. Mary's) took her sets 6-1 and 6-0.
Plattsburgh State starts the season 1-0 and will play Castleton University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Vermont.
