POTSDAM, N.Y. – The top ranked Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team traveled to Potsdam to close out its 2015-16 regular season, defeating the Bears by the final score of 10-0.
The Cardinals controlled the game from start to finish and made every chance of their power play opportunities, going 5-for-8 on the afternoon.
Melissa Ames got the Cardinals going in the first with an extra-man goal before
Karen Hudson scored her third of the season with less than a minute in the first, giving Plattsburgh State a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.
Plattsburgh State would explode for five goals in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Freshman,
Courtney Moriarty would score two in a row before senior,
Giovanna Senese scored the next two to make it 6-0.
Ashley Songin would score two of her own to close out the second and open the third period for her third and fourth goals on the season.
The fourth Cardinal to net two consecutive goals would be junior
Jordan Lipson as she capped off the 10-0 victory for Plattsburgh State.
Plattsburgh State outshot the Potsdam by a margin of 52-20 for the game.
On the defensive end, Cardinal goaltender
Camille Leonard turned away all 20 shots in keeping the Bears off the board for the contest. The Oakville, Ontario native closes out the regular season with 12 shutouts in 23 games started.
Plattsburgh State finishes the regular season with a 24-1-0 overall record, including a 17-1-0 mark in the ECAC West. The Cardinals will have next weekend to rest before hosting the ECAC West tournament during the first weekend of March.
