PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The 2006-07 and 2007-08 women's ice hockey teams will be honored in the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame as teams of distinction, as announced on Wednesday by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation and the Office of Alumni Relations. The two teams will be honored on Saturday, Nov. 7, during the Cardinals' 5 p.m. game against Worcester State University.

The 2006-07 Cardinal women's ice hockey squad was a historic one, becoming the first women's team in Plattsburgh State history to win a national championship and establishing a tradition of national success for the program. After making three consecutive national semifinal appearances, the Cardinals broke through in 2007 by defeating Middlebury College, 2-1, the same team the Cardinals had fallen to in the national championship game a year prior. Plattsburgh State concluded the season with a 27-0-2 overall record (12-0-2 ECAC West), posting 10 shutouts and capturing the ECAC West Championship and the NCAA Division III National Championship. Notably, this was a record-breaking season as the Cardinals became the first team in NCAA women's ice hockey history, at either the Division I or Division III level, to complete a season without a loss.

Plattsburgh State's 2007-08 women's ice hockey team continued the program's tradition of national success, capturing its second straight NCAA Division III National Championship while finishing the season with a 25-3-1 overall record (14-1-1 ECAC West). The Cardinals opened the season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Neumann University before earning a commanding 7-2 win over the Knights the following day. Plattsburgh State also put together its longest winning streak of the season, an eight-game stretch, and posted 14 shutouts throughout the year, including one in the NCAA Division III Tournament semifinal against Elmira College after falling to the Soaring Eagles in the ECAC West Championship game. The Cardinals then defeated Manhattanville College, 3-2, in the national championship game to secure back-to-back NCAA Division III national titles.
