BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State tennis team defeated the Fredonia Blue Devils in the first round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Heading into the tournament, the Cardinals landed the three seed in the SUNYAC East division, while the Blue Devils captured the second seed in the SUNYAC West division.
In the first round, the Cardinals grabbed 2-of-3 of the doubles matches from the Blue Devils.
In singles play,
Kelci Henn (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd),
Sarah Drexinger (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa), and
Sierra Barrett (Beekmantown, N.Y./Beekmantown) all grabbed victories to get the Cardinals to the five win plateau, the mark that signifies a majority win and ends the match in the tournament.
With the win, the Cardinals own a 10-3 overall record and advance in the SUNYAC Tournament to play the New Paltz Hawks on Sunday at noon in Binghamton.
