Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team concluded the 2015 North Country Classic at Clarkson with a 2-1 setback against the Golden Knights.
Despite owning a 19-8 shot disparity throughout the game, the duo of Summer Gillespie and Lauren Flynn would prove to be too much for the Cardinals Sunday afternoon.
Clarkson would get on the board first to take a 1-0 in the 16
th minute.
Flynn sent a pass to Gillespoe who beat two defenders and then sent a chip shot over Cardinals goalie
Nichole Gibson Plattsburgh State would strike the equalizer in the 34
th minute on
Anissa Hartmann's first goal of the season tying the game at 1-1.
Hartmann stole the ball springing her to a break away before sending her shot past Golden Knight keeper Anna Demasi.
The Cardinals would control possession throughout the rest of the first half and into the second half generating multiple scoring chances and corner kicks but the Clarkson defense wouldn't crack.
It would remain 1-1 all the way up until the 77
th minute when the combination of Gillespie and Flynn would attack again except this time the roles were reversed.
Gillespie sent a through ball to Flynn setting up the Clarkson forward for a shot that she buried low inside the post past Gibson for the game-winner.
Gibson finished the afternoon with four saves while Demasi collected six for Clarkson.
The Cardinals doubled up the Golden Knights in corner kick attempts with four for Plattsburgh State and two for Clarkson.
After winning its season opener, Plattsburgh State falls to 1-2-0 on the season. They will look to right the ship on Wednesday when they travel to Schenectady, N.Y. to take on Union at 7 p.m.
