PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Just one day after beating Neumann 8-0, the Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team returned to the Stafford Ice Arena to finish up the weekend doubleheader against the Knights, dropping them 9-1.
Neumann would jump out to a 1-0 lead, converting a power play goal just 2:21 into the first period.
However the Cardinals would score three goals in a four minute span to take a 3-1 lead after the first period.
Melissa Sheeran would score the first goal for Plattsburgh State, picking up right where she left off from yesterday's hat trick performance against the Knights.
Olivia Fox would score for the second straight day, giving the Cardinals a lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
With 2:49 left in the first period,
Giovanna Senese would make it 3-1 scoring the first of two goals on the afternoon.
In the second period,
Jordan Lipson would score her first goal of the season 2:20 into the frame giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead.
Kayla Meneghin would get her second goal of the season, converting a power play goal for the Cardinals late in the second period. Meneghin would finish the day with a team-high four point performance.
In the third,
Melissa Ames,
Courtney Moriarty and
Bridget Balisy would all find the back of the net to salt away the 9-1 victory.
Freshman,
Kassi Abbott made her first career start for the Cardinals, making 10 saves in the winning performance.
Justina Mayr got the start for the Knights stopping 67 shots as the Cardinals had a season-high 76 shots on the afternoon.
With the win, top ranked Plattsburgh State improves to 4-0-0 (2-0-0 ECACW) while Neumann is still in search of its first win, falling to 0-4-0 (0-2-0 ECACW).
The Cardinals will hit the road for their longest road trip of the year when they head to Pittsburgh, Pa., next weekend to take on Chatham.
