Cardinals see Six-Game Win Streak Snapped at Oswego

Caitlin Gagen scored the lone for the Cardinals against Oswego in a 2-1 loss. Gagen now has two goals in the past three games.
Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team rode six-straight wins into Oswego Saturday afternoon but seven would prove problematic as the Cardinals fell to the Lakers 2-1.

The first 24 minutes would provide all the scoring between the two squads as each team would settle down in the second half.

Plattsburgh State would come out of the gates strong, scoring in the opening four minutes of the contest.

Caitlin Gagen would capture her third goal of the season when she connected with Madeline Saccocio on a cross inside the box. Gagen would send her shot over Laker's goalkeeper Melissa Siegfried to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

However, Oswego State would score the next two goals to grab a lead of its own.

First was by the foot of Alexa Restante in the 11th minute to make it 1-1. Restante would steal the ball and sprint past the Plattsburgh State defense before sending her shot past Cardinal's goalie Nichole Gibson on the left.

The Lakers would grab a 2-1 in the 24th minute when Emma Geyer linked up with Ariah Rosos. Geyer sent a through ball to Rosos setting her up with a shot that she was able to beat Gibson with.

From there on out each team would settle in, as shots in the second half were 7-6 favoring the Lakers.

Gibson and Siegriend each made five saves respectfully for their team.

With the loss, Plattsburgh State suffered its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss of the season. The Cardinals now sit at 7-3-1 and 2-1-0 in the SUNYAC. Oswego State swept the weekend including defeating SUNY Potsdam on Friday to improve to 7-4-0 and 2-2-0 in the SUNYAC.

After three-consecutive road games the Cardinals will return to the Field House Complex this weekend to host a pair of SUNYAC contests against New Paltz and Oneonta on Friday and Saturday respectively.

As always throughout the 2015 season, the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team will be sponsoring a food drive during the game. They encourage all fans to bring nonperishable can goods that they will donate to a local food bank in the greater Plattsburgh area.
