Cardinals Swarm Bears, 4-0

Lindsey Bushey had two goals and four points in the Cardinals victory over Potsdam
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team got exactly what it was looking for starting State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with a 4-0 win over north country rival SUNY Potsdam Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals haven't played a home game since September 5 after playing three straight road games that saw them lose their last two games. But a little home cooking was all the Cardinals needed to get back on the winning track.

Plattsburgh State got on the board early and then controlled play the entire match.

Goal scoring machine Lindsey Bushey continued her ways scoring the first two goals for the Cardinals.

Bushey's first goal came in the 10th minute when she collected a long lead pass that got her behind the defense. She then dribbled the ball into the box on the right side where she fired a shot that deflected off the goalie before trickling into the net.

The Plattsburgh, N.Y., native got back on the score sheet in the 50th minute when she settled the ball on top of the box. She made one touch to her left foot before ripping a shot through the defense and into top right corner of the goal.

Ten minutes later the Cardinals made it 3-0 courtesy of Madeline Saccocio scoring her first colligate goal. Saccocio received a pass from junior, Cassidy Clavet that set her up on the left side of the box. Saccocio then placed a shot by Potsdam goalkeeper Bri Thibeau.

Plattsburgh State tallied one more on for good measure, this time instead of setting up a goal Clavet decided to score one herself. Senior captain Ashley Pagano linked up a pass with fellow captain Clavet. The Clifton Park, N.Y. product gathered, turned and blasted a shot over Thibeau into the top right corner of the net.

The Cardianls owned a 31-6 shots margin including a 14-4 shots on goal advantage. Danielle Schmitt finished with four saves while Potsdam's Thibeau had 10 saves in the losing effort.

Plattsburgh State now sits 5-3-0 overall and tied for third in the SUNYAC standings at 1-0-0 and two points. SUNY Potsdam falls to 4-3-1 and 0-1-0 in SUNYAC play.

Lindsey Bushey now has eight goals and 17 points through the first eight games. She ranks first in the SUNYAC in goals, points, points per game and game winners.

Plattsburgh State will remain at home Friday and Saturday for two more SUNYAC games as they square off with Cortland and Oswego respectively.
