Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State returned to the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a tough fought contest to Skidmore 2-1.
In a scoreless first half that saw the Thoroughbreds hold a 7-4 lead in shots, action escalated in the second half.
The scoring got under way in the 56
th minute when a junior Megan Caccavale split two defenders on her way into the box before sending a shot by senior goalkeeper Danielle Schmitt.
Three minutes later the Cardinals lit up the score board courtesy of a corner kick. Cammey Keyser sent a ball into the box that almost curled in. When a Skidmore defender went to clear the ball it was deflected off Lindsey Bushey and into the back of the net.
The Thoroughbreds answered quickly though scoring just 41 seconds later. Emily Saliterman dribbled down the right side splitting the defense and scoring her fifth of the season.
Bushey now has five goals on the season and team leading 11 points.
Shots were 10-10 in the second half with the Thoroughbreds holding a 17-14 advantage. Schmitt made five saves in the losing effort.
With the loss Plattsburgh State drops to 4-3 and finished 1-2 on its three game non-conference road trip.
With the win Skidmore moves back to .500 at 3-3.
