Plattsburgh State (13-5) defeated Potsdam, 11-6, in the SUNYAC Semifinals to advance to the SUNYAC Finals for the second-straight season. Despite an 0-16 all-time record against the Red Dragons, the Cardinals have tested Cortland in recent years. Earlier this season, Plattsburgh State outscored Cortland through three quarters but the Red Dragons staged a late rally to squeak out an 11-10 victory over the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are led by Brendam Damm, who comes into the weekend with a league-leading 50 goals and 66 points. Senior midfielder Robbie Ashlaw has played a huge part in the Cardinals' success this season, backing up Damm with 54 points. Ashlaw ranks fifth in the league in goals (30), second in assists (24) and is fourth in points. Senior Tim Lawrence also looks to continues his recent tear with 16 of his 40 points coming in the last three games. Plattsburgh State averages 12.11 goals per game while holding its opponents to 8.11 goals per game. Senior Charlie Dullea is third in the SUNYAC with 67 ground balls and leads the Cardinals with 29 caused turnovers. Andrew Hauk has been a mainstay in the Cardinals' cage, bringing a 13-5 record and a 7.65 goals-against average into Saturday's game.

Standing between the Cardinals and their first league crown is nationally-ranked No.8 Cortland with a 14-3 overall record. The Red Dragons are in search of their seventh-straight conference title and 22nd overall after defeating Oneonta, 15-3, in the SUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday. Zach Hopps leads the Cortland offense with 33 points and 22 assists, which is good for third in the conference. Matt Rakoczy and Mike Cantelli follow with 37 and 31 points, respectively. Pat Baldwin leads the Red Dragons with 63 ground balls while J.T. Foltz leads his squad with 24 caused turnovers. Cortland's offense has been just a tick more successful than Plattsburgh State's with the Red Dragons averaging 12.24 goals per game while Cortland's opponents are scoring 6.65 goals per game. Junior goalie Scott Tota is 13-3 and leads the SUNYAC with a 6.41 goals against average.
