Three Second Half Goals Power Cardinals over SUNY Cortland, 3-0

Cassidy Clavet tallied three points on a goal and an assist in Friday afternoon's victory against SUNY Cortland
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team launched the first game on the new turf at the Field House Complex Friday afternoon in winning fashion, defeating SUNY Cortland 3-0.

The game started slow as both teams only generated one shot on goal in the first half.

The second half was a different story as it only took the Cardinals six minutes in the new stanza to light the scoreboard.

Cassidy Clavet collected a loose ball that bounced off several players after a Lindsey Bushey shot was blocked. The junior then sent a shot on top of the 18 yard box that lofted over goalkeeper Renee Walker into the top left corner of the net.

The freshman sensation Bushey continued her hot streak scoring her ninth of the season to give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage.

Bushey took a pass outside the box and beat several defenders as she dribbled to the six yard box. She ripped a shot that was deflected but still beat the keeper. Bushey has now scored in three straight contests for the Cardinals.

Devin McMahon provided the dagger in the 85th minute as she blasted her first goal of the year from outside the 18 yard box. Clavet assisted on the play as her pass connected with McMahon who simply one touched it before finding the back of the net.

Clifton Park, N.Y., native Clavet finished Friday afternoon with a team-high three points.

The Cardinals held a 14-8 shot advantage over the Red Dragons including a 10-4 disparity in the second half.

Plattsburgh State goalkeeper Danielle Schmitt made two saves and earned her third shutout of the season.

Plattsburgh State moved to 6-3-0, 2-0-0 SUNYAC after the win while SUNY Cortland fell to 2-6-1, 1-1-1 SUNYAC. All six of Plattsburgh State's victories this year have come in shutout performances.
