Cardinals Unable to Find SUNYAC Success in Three-Set Losses to Buffalo State and New Paltz

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Things didn't go so well for the Plattsburgh State volleyball team on Saturday as the Cardinals dropped a pair of three-set decisions to Buffalo State (25-13, 25-18, 25-22) and New Paltz (25-10, 25-10, 25-15). All of the matches were hosted by The College at Brockport and were played at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
 
The Cardinals fell to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in SUNYAC play with the setbacks.
 
MATCH ONE: Buffalo State 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-22)
It was another slow start for the Cardinals, who were limited to a hitting percentage of -.222 in the opening set. As a team, Plattsburgh State amassed just four kills on 36 swings while making 12 errors.
 
Things got progressively better for the Cardinals in the offensive department as the match wore on. Plattsburgh State hit .049 in the second set and .244 in the deciding frame.
 
Emily Miller came up with a team-high six kills for the Cardinals while senior Meghan Clifford added 22 assists, eight digs and two of the three Plattsburgh State service aces.
 
Buffalo State made use of a balance attack to score the win. Sam Parente hammered down a match-high nine kills and led four Bengals who amassed six kills or more in the sweep.
 
MATCH TWO: New Paltz 3, Plattsburgh State 0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-15)
Going up against the 2013 SUNYAC Volleyball Tournament runner up in New Paltz, the Cardinals found themselves hard-pressed to get anything going on the offensive end of the court.
 
Freshman Miranda Sheffer tallied a team-best six kills for Plattsburgh State, who was limited to an attack percentage of -.035.
 
New Paltz made use of any number of players on its roster to secure the win. Becca Borquist smashed down a match-high eight kills on 20 swings for the Hawks. Katy Braddon added seven terminations of her own for New Paltz which hit .388 in the three-set match.
 
The Cardinals will take a short break from SUNYAC action when they make their return to the North Country next weekend. Plattsburgh State will head to Clarkson University to play three matches in the Golden Knights Invitational. First up is a 9 p.m. tussle with Utica on Friday.
