Non-Conference Battle with Rivier Results in 3-0 Plattsburgh State Victory

Cassidy Clavet racked up three points in a 3-0 victory for the Cardinals on Saturday.
Box Score NASHUA, N.H. – Three different Plattsburgh State women's soccer players netted one goal each to lead the Cardinals to their first triumph in 2013 in a 3-0 non-conference victory over Rivier College on Saturday afternoon.

Plattsburgh State evens its 2013 mark at 1-1 while Rivier falls to 0-1 on the young season.

Applying some consistent pressure, the Cardinals took 26 shots during the game and sent 12 attempts toward the mouth of Rivier's goal.

Senior captain Lauren Gonyea gave the Cardinals the only lead they would require during the match when she set up shop just outside the 18-yard box and sent a chip shot over the head of Rivier keeper Cassandra Brown (0-1) at the 25:17 mark. Cassidy Clavet and Cammey Keyser assisted on the Cardinals' first goal of 2013.

Clavet made it a three-point afternoon for herself when she corralled a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box and blasted it past Brown for a 2-0 Plattsburgh State lead. The unassisted tally at 70:31 was the third goal of Clavet's collegiate career.

Mere minutes later, junior Jill Tardelli netted her first career goal on her only shot of the game. The junior rounded out the Plattsburgh State offensive effort with 82:24 gone in the game.

Making her second career start in goal after logging numerous minutes as part of Plattsburgh State's defensive unit in 2011, junior Charisse Abellard (1-1) did not face a single shot through the 90-minute tilt. Lauren Tamposi took the only shot of the afternoon for the Raiders.

Plattsburgh State doubled up the Raiders in corner kicks, taking six compared to the three taken by Rivier.

Their two-game New Hampshire weekend a matter of record, the Cardinals will take the pitch at the Field House Complex for the first time in 2013 on Friday. In the first game of the Cardinal Classic, Plattsburgh State will do battle with North Country nemesis St. Lawrence University at 4 p.m.
