Baseball Hosts "Brian Mehan Be The Match Day" on Tuesday

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – For the second straight season, the Plattsburgh State baseball team will honor former player Brian Mehan who lost his battle with cancer five years ago by hosting the “Brian Mehan Be The Match Day” on Tuesday night.

Prior to their game against SUNY Canton on Tuesday evening, members of the Plattsburgh State baseball team will be in the Angell College Center Ballroom from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. hosting a Be The Match Drive. Member of the Plattsburgh State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host a similar drive at Lefty Wilson Field from 6-7:30 p.m.

Joining the Be The Match Registry is easy and pain-free; volunteers simply need to swab the inside of a person's cheek for 30 seconds. On average, one in every 540 members of the Be The Match Registry in the United States will go on to donate bone marrow to a patient.

The game against SUNY Canton at Lefty Wilson Field will begin at 7 p.m. and is the final game for the Cardinals in 2013. Before the non-conference contest gets underway, the Cardinals will pair up with local Special Olympians to take the field and a ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Joey Painter who will be escorted by Brian Mehan’s family.

There will be numerous raffles taking place during the game, with proceeds being split evenly between the Be The Match Foundation and the Brian P. Mehan Memorial Scholarship at Plattsburgh High School.
