Damm, Kramer Lead the Way as Cardinals Demolish Western Connecticut, 18-2

Freshman Brendan Damm pumped in four goals and added an assist in Plattsburgh State's 18-2 victory over Western Conn. on Saturday.
Box Score DANBURY, Conn. – Brendan Damm and Joey Kramer netted four goals each as the Plattsburgh State lacrosse team ran over Western Connecticut State 18-2 on Saturday night.
 
With another landslide victory, Plattsburgh State improves to 6-0 – tying the mark for the best start in program history set by the 2006 edition of the Cardinals. Western Connecticut, meanwhile, slides to 5-2 in their 2013 campaign.
 
Qusarn Caldwell got the Plattsburgh State offense started with his first goal of the season less than one minute into the bout before Damm struck for the first time on an unassisted tally with 8:27 to go in the initial frame.
 
Kramer took hold of the offensive reins through the remainder of the first stanza, pumping in his first goal of the night thanks to a pretty pass from Tim Lawrence who engaged in competition for the first time in 2013.
 
With 26 seconds remaining in the first, Tom Duggan set up Kramer for his second of the game that made matters 4-0 Cardinals.
 
A man-up goal by Duggan allowed Plattsburgh State’s offensive onslaught to continue in the second frame before Damm located Kramer who scored his third of the game to make things 7-0 Cardinals.
 
Matt Renko provided yet another goal for the Cardinals with 7:10 to go in the second before Brett McClelland netted the second man-up tally of the night for the Cardinals thanks to an assist from Duggan.
 
Damm closed out the scoring in the first half of play with his second of the game after John Olsen provided the assist.
 
Plattsburgh State kept rolling in the third, netting six additional goals before Western Connecticut’s Christian Bonilla spoiled the shutout bid, blasting a shot past Gordie Gehring with 29 seconds to go in the frame that made things 15-1.
 
Three additional goals by the Cardinals in the final frame and another by Western Connecticut accounted for the final margin.
 
Plattsburgh State outpaced their enemies in shots (60-28), and scooped up 47 ground balls compared to just 35 by the home squad. Joey Kromer picked up a game-high nine ground balls for the Cardinals.
 
After a four-day hiatus, the Cardinals will confront another Connecticut foe in their next tilt. In their only neutral site clash of the regular season, Plattsburgh State will do battle with Connecticut College on the campus of John Hopkins University in Baltimore. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
