SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – In the second game of the Union College Women’s Soccer Invitational, four different goal-scorers helped the Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team (4-0) to a 4-0 shutout against Husson College (0-4) at College Park.
For the game, Plattsburgh outshot Husson 19-3, and held an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.
The Cardinals notched three first half goals to pull away early in the contest. Kristie Pageau scored the game's first goal in the 21st minute, corralling a loose ball off a corner kick and finishing at 20:33.
Later in the half Plattsburgh scored twice in a span of less than two minutes to put the game out of reach. Renee Egan gave Plattsburgh State a two-goal lead at 34:07. Egan's corner kick just under two minutes later set up the Cardinals’ next goal, as Lauren Gonyea poked in a loose ball at 35:42 to put Plattsburgh up 3-0.
Plattsburgh freshman Amanda Livolsi would add another score for the Cardinal at 65:27, also off a corner kick, to seal the victory.
Danielle Schmitt made her first start of the year in the Plattsburgh net, making one stop through 72:15. Monica D’Ippolito took over for Schmitt in the 73
rd minute but did not see a shot the rest of the way. Husson goalkeeper Jessica Poulin, suffered the loss with seven saves
The Cardinals will take on Union College tomorrow at noon, while Husson close out the tournament against Endicott College at 3:00 p.m.
