PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team erupted for six goals in the first eight minutes of Saturday’s State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game, snapping a three-game losing streak with a 13-4 win over Oswego State.
With just 51 seconds gone in the game Joey Kramer put Plattsburgh on the board with his 21
st of the year from Nick Travers. The Cardinals rattled off five more goals in the first quarter before Tim Lawrence score at the 11:24 mark of the second to give Plattsburgh a 7-0 lead at the half.
Anthony Pafundi finally ended Plattsburgh’s drought on extra-man opportunities with a man-up goal at the 2:26 mark of the third quarter. Lawrence added his second of the day 59 seconds later as the Cardinals held a nine-goal lead after three quarters.
Oswego’s Dan Allgeier ended Plattsburgh’s shutout hopes with 13:40 remaining in the game, making it 9-1 with his second of the season from Cody Hoose. Brandon Dzwonkowski, Britt Leone and Brian Slattery also added goals in the final quarter, rounding out the scoring for the Lakers. Hoose finished the day with two assists.
Lawrence and Nick Travers each scored three goals and added an assist for Plattsburgh (7-5, 1-1 SUNYAC). Kramer chipped in two goals and an assist while Tommy Kilderry netted a pair of goals.
Mike Santisteban won 10 faceoffs and scooped up eight groundballs for the Cardinals. Frank Gargiulo and Nick Parrella each caused four turnovers.
Ian O’Brien made 21 stops for Oswego (7-2, 0-2 SUNYAC) and picked up four groundballs. Gordie Gehring allowed four goals and recorded nine saves to earn his seventh win of the season.
The Cardinals outshot the Lakers, 53-28, including a 16-1 margin in the first 15 minutes. Plattsburgh was 1-for-3 with a man-up while Oswego was unable to convert its five extra-man opportunities.
Plattsburgh continues conference play Wednesday as Oneonta State travels to the Field House Lacrosse Complex for a 4 p.m. start.
