CORTLAND, N.Y. – After helping the No. 33-ranked Plattsburgh State women’s cross country team to a runner-up finish at the 2012 SUNYAC Championships, junior Kelley Driscoll and senior Colleen Coon were named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Conference team.
Driscoll, who hails from Geneva, N.Y., paced the Cardinals in their quest for a SUNYAC championship, finishing in sixth place with a time of 23:47.18 which ensured her a spot on the All-Conference First Team. In addition to the All-Conference accolades, Driscoll was one of six runners inducted in the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame.
To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, a runner must have finished in the top five once, the top 10 twice, or the top 15 three times in his or her career at the SUNYAC Championships. This was Driscoll’s third top-15 finish at the event after finishing 12
th in 2011 and 15
th during her freshman campaign in 2010.
Coon overcame the sloppy course conditions to capture a ninth-place finish at the SUNYAC Championships for an All-Conference Second Team selection. The Penfield, N.Y., product finished the 6,000 meter course in a time of 24:11.36. Coon narrowly missed the cut for a first team selection as she was just four second behind the seventh-place finisher. Runners who finished first through seventh were awarded a spot on the All-Conference First Team while those who finished in places eight through 15 were given an All-Conference Second Team nod.
The Cardinals have a little less than two weeks off before they make one final push for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Plattsburgh State will take part in the NCAA Atlantic Regional in Rochester, N.Y., on Saturday, November 10. The important race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
