WATERFORD, Conn. – Competing in its final race before the SUNYAC Championships, the Plattsburgh State men’s cross country squad enjoyed a strong performance at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 13). The Cardinals finished in seventh place among the 22-team field.
After running together virtually all day, a trio of Cardinals crossed the finish line in 22
nd, 23
rd and 24
th places. Senior Ryan Millar led the way with a time of 26:05 while juniors Mike Schram and Adam Shearer posted times of 26:07 to account for the top three Plattsburgh State finishers.
Thirty seconds behind them was senior Chris Martin. The Syracuse, N.Y., product posted a 52
nd place finish with a time of 26:37. Freshman Jason Flach finished in 73
rd, breaking the tape in a time of 26:59 while senior Richard Adickes was the final Cardinal runner in the top 100, crossing the line in a time of 27:32 which was good for 99
th place.
Freshman Zach Rose was the final point producing runner the Cardinals boasted, finished in 111
th in the 233-athlete field with a time of 28:04.
The Cardinals accumulated 194 points over the eight-kilometer course in order to finish in seventh place. That finish was good for second when compared with the other two SUNYAC institutions taking part in the Invitational. Connecticut claimed the team championship, racking up 86 points on the afternoon.
After resting their legs for a little less than two weeks, the Cardinals will make for Brocton N.Y., to take part in the SUNYAC Championships. Fredonia State will serve as the host of the event which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27.
