Men's Lacrosse Falls to Cortland, 14-5, on Senior Day

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
  – The Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team struggled to generate offense against a tough Cortland team, falling 14-5 to the Red Dragons in the regular season finale at the Field House Lacrosse Complex.

Mike Tota scored twice to give the Red Dragons an early 2-0 before Kyle Norchi scored his 50th goal of the season, an unassisted effort at 5:24 of the first quarter.  But Cortland tallied two more goals in the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 4-1 lead after the first.

The Cardinals netted two goals in the second quarter, an unassisted goal from Norchi at the 4:52 mark and a goal by Joey Kramer from Brett McClelland with 2:21 left in the half.

Plattsburgh was held to one goal in each of the final two quarters.  The Cardinals held Cortland to one goal in the third quarter, but the Red Dragons exploded for six goals in the final quarter to put the game out of reach.

Tota led the way for Cortland, scoring four goals and adding two assists.  Neal Hopps tallied a goal and four assists for five points on the afternoon.  

Norchi and Kramer each netted two goals for the Cardinals. Charlie Dullea accounted for the fifth Plattsburgh goal.  

Scott Tota earned the win in net for the Red Dragons, making 12 saves.  Danny Caufield made 17 stops for Plattsburgh.  Gordie Gehring game in to take over for Caufield for the final 5:39, stopping two shots.

The Red Dragons dominated in statistical categories: 57-26 in shots, 34-17 in ground balls and 21-2 in face-off wins.

Plattsburgh finish the season 10-6 overall and 3-3 against conference opponents.  Cortland improves to 13-2 on the year and 6-0 in the conference.

Prior to today’s game, the Cardinals honored their five seniors – Pete Morgan, Sean Jaquin, Will Folgherait, Dan DeFrancesco and Kyle Norchi.  A two-time team captain, Norchi finishes his four-year Plattsburgh career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 198 goals and 84 assists for 282 career points.
