OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team defeated the Oswego State Lakers, 17-8, in its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener at South Athletic Field.
The Cardinals improve to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in SUNYAC play. The Lakers fall to 4-4 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.
Eleven different Cardinals scored goals in Plattsburgh’s seventh-straight win. Brett McClelland, Tim Lawrence and Pete Morgan each contributed four points.
Senior attack Kyle Norchi scored three goals for Plattsburgh, giving him a team-high 31 goals this season. His three goals today mark a career milestone for Norchi who becomes the Cardinals’ all-time point leader with 255.
The Lakers were led by freshman attack Chris Porten with three goals.
Plattsburgh finished with advantages in shots (43-39), groundballs (44-33) and faceoff wins (16-29). The Cardinals went 3-for-4 on extra-man opportunities, while the Lakers went 1-for-6.
Danny Caufield played just shy of 53 minutes in the Cardinals’ net, recording 15 saves. Gordie Gehring finished the game in net with four saves.
Oswego goalkeeper Ian O’Brien made 14 stops in the loss.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, April 6 at St. Lawrence University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
