Plattsburgh Scores Five in the Fourth Quarter to Take Down the Bears

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team tallied five goals in the final quarter en route to an 11-6 win over the Potsdam State Bears in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) lacrosse action at the Field House Lacrosse Complex.

The Cardinals (9-2, 2-0 SUNYAC) held a 4-2 lead at the half before Potsdam rallied to tie it at 5-5 in the third quarter on back-to-back goals from Derek Frost and Sean McAuliffe.  Joey Kramer put Plattsburgh back on top with 2:10 left in the third from Tim Lawrence.

Plattsburgh rattled off five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter.  Bears’ leading scorer McAuliffe added his second of the game in the final seconds of the game to cut the Cardinal lead to 11-6.

Lawrence netted a team-high three goals and added an assist.  Pete Morgan scored twice and added two helpers, while Joey Kramer also scored two goals.

In addition to McAuliffe’s two goals, Peter Pike added a goal and two assists.  Robbie Ashlaw also recorded two assists.

The Cardinals held a 55-33 edge in shots and a 30-17 advantage in ground balls.  Plattsburgh had 13 faceoff wins to Potsdam’s eight.

The Bears (5-7, 2-1 SUNYAC) went 2-for-5 on extra-man opportunities, while Plattsburgh was unable to convert any of its four opportunities.

Danny Caufield picked up his ninth victory in the Plattsburgh net, stopping 10 Potsdam shots, before Gordie Gehring entered for the final 52 seconds.  Potsdam goalie Pat Corbine recorded 15 saves.  Stefan Sloma replaced Corbine for the final 1:54, allowing one goal.

Plattsburgh hits the road this weekend for a conference game at SUNY Brockport on Saturday, April 16.  Game time is schedule for noon.
