FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Pete Morgan tallied four points to lead the Cardinal offense but the Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team fell to Farmingdale State, 17-15, in the season opener. The Cardinals drop to 0-1, while the Rams improve to 1-1.
The Plattsburgh offense saw a number of different contributors, with eight Cardinals scoring goals. Senior attack Kyle Norchi had a team-high three goals and seven ground balls for Plattsburgh, while Morgan finished the afternoon with two goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Nick Travers contributed two goals and an assist.
Ryan Hastings gave the Cardinals their only lead of the day just two minutes into the first quarter, but Farmingdale State answered back with four goals. The Cardinals rallied to tie the game once in the third and twice in the fourth but could not overcome the Rams.
The Cardinals dominated in shots, 62-36, and held a slight 51-49 edge in ground balls. The Rams owned a 23 to 11 advantage in face-off wins.
Offensively, Farmingdale State was led by junior attack Erick Thomson with six goals and an assist. Junior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal gave the Rams a stellar performance in net with a career-high 27 saves.
Junior Danny Caufield recorded 14 saves for the Cardinals in the defeat.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday, Mar. 9 at St. Michael’s College.
