Cardinals Make it Six Straight with 12-5 Win over Clarkson

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 12-5 win over Clarkson University at the Field House Lacrosse Complex.  The Cardinals improve to 6-1, while the Golden Knights fall to 3-4 on the year.

The Cardinals held a 7-5 lead at the half before scoring three goals in the third, including a man-down goal from Brett McClelland at the 4:49 mark.  Plattsburgh tacked on two more in the final quarter to pick up its sixth straight win.

Kyle Norchi led the way for Plattsburgh with four goals and two assists.  Norchi has 252 career points – one shy of the Cardinals’ all-time record of 253 set by Luke Weidlein.

Tim Lawrence, Pete Morgan and Tommy Kilderry all added two goals apiece for Plattsburgh.  Nick Travers scooped up a team-high five groundballs.

Tyler Long registered two goals and an assist for Clarkson.  Matt McCabe was the only other Golden Knight to register multiple points with two helpers.

Plattsburgh held the edge in shots (43-29) and groundballs (26-15).  Clarkson earned 11 faceoff wins, while the Cardinals had won 10.  Plattsburgh went 0-for-3 on extra man opportunities.

Danny Caufield earned his sixth win in net for Plattsburgh, making 13 stops.  Gordie Gehring came on to play the final 1:13 and did not record a save.  Ryan Cole recorded 12 saves in the loss for the Golden Knights.  Pat Briggs did not make a stop as he closed out the final five minutes of the game in the Clarkson goal.

The Cardinals hit the road this weekend to open their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) schedule at Oswego State.  The game is schedule for Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
