PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 8 Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team (8-3-1, 6-0-1 ECAC West) scored three goals in the second period en route to a 4-0 shutout of Manhattanville (4-5-2, 3-2-1 ECAC East) in the final game of the first semester Saturday afternoon at the Stafford Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Cardinals came out flying the second. Jordan Caldwell netted the go-ahead goal with just 38 seconds gone in the middle period from Justine Fisher. The Cardinals struck again 1:10 later as Morgan MacInnis tallied her fourth of the year from Shannon Stewart and Teal Gove.
Later in the period, the Valiants found themselves down two skaters and Plattsburgh was able to capitalize on the opportunity as Fisher score a power-play goal at the 9:31 mark to make it 3-0.
Things got chippy in the final period with each team taking three penalties. With the game already out of reach, MacInnis scored her second of the night on the power-play with 29 seconds remaining in the game. Emma Rutherford and Ashton Hogan assisted on the Plattsburgh goal.
The Cardinals outshot Manhattanville, 28-20, while going 2-for-4 on the power-play. Manhattanville was 0-for-2 in its power-play opportunities.
Plattsburgh’s Sydney Aveson recorded 20 saves in her fourth shutout of the season, improving to 7-2-0. Manhattanville’s Emy Cote turned away 24 of the 28 shots she faced.
The Cardinals are now off until the turn of the year. Plattsburgh returns to the ice Friday, Jan. 6 at Potsdam for a 3 p.m. game.
