WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team saw its 2025–26 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling 2–1 in overtime to Williams College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Lansing Chapman Rink.
Williams controlled much of the play during the opening period, generating several quality chances, but the Cardinals weathered the pressure and the teams skated to a scoreless tie after the first 20 minutes.
Plattsburgh responded with a strong second period and carried much of the play throughout the frame. Capitalizing on sustained offensive pressure, the Cardinals broke through midway through the period when first-year Bailey MacKellar (Hamburg, N.Y./Nichols School) found the back of the net to give Plattsburgh a 1–0 advantage heading into the third period.
The final regulation period turned into an end-to-end battle, with both teams trading chances as the intensity ramped up. Williams eventually evened the score in the third period to force overtime. In the extra session, the Ephs completed the comeback, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Plattsburgh pushed the pace throughout the contest and finished with more shots on goal, but the Williams defense and goaltending handled the pressure late to preserve the victory.
The Cardinals entered the matchup holding a 14–2 advantage in the all-time series against Williams, though the Ephs claimed their second win of the season against Plattsburgh after also earning a 2–1 victory earlier this year at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. With the loss, the Cardinals finished their season with a 20–7–1 overall record.
