PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2011) – The Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss at the hands of The College at Brockport Saturday on a day when the Cardinals honored the 2011 senior class.
Despite a 19-4 Plattsburgh advantage in shots, Brockport took the shot that mattered most. At 11:44 of the first half, Kaila Maguire beat Plattsburgh goalkeeper Danielle Schmitt to net the lone goal of the afternoon. Arielle Schneider assisted on the Brockport goal.
Plattsburgh (6-6-3, 4-4-1 SUNYAC) dominated with 11 shots in the second half, while Brockport (10-5-1, 5-4-0 SUNYAC) fired just one. The Cardinals also held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
Schmitt recorded two saves for Plattsburgh in the loss. Brockport goalie Erin Asquith stopped five shots to preserve the shutout and earn her tenth victory.
Saturday’s game marked the final home game for seven Cardinal players, Lindsey Keyser, Kaitlin Graeb, Jackie Fanneron, Megan Rivage, Leigh Metcalf, Danielle Weimer and Brittany Meade. The Plattsburgh senior class was honored in a ceremony prior to the start of the game.
With the loss, Brockport leapfrogs Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC standings, leaving the Cardinals on the outside looking in for the postseason. Plattsburgh will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup at Norwich University. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
