ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team met its match on Friday night, as the Cardinals skated to a 2-2 tie against R.I.T in front of a sellout crowd of 2,100 fans. The Tigers’ Sarah Dagg scored a power play goal with just 56 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless first period, R.I.T’s Kristina Moss scored at 13:08 of the second period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Hannah Epstein and Sarah Dagg were credited with assists on the goal.
Plattsburgh (12-2-2, 8-1-1 ECAC West) scored two quick goals to grab the lead in the third period. Allison Era netted her second of the season at the 4:59 mark of the third period. Chelsea VanGlahn scored at 6:13 of the third from Justine Fisher and Jordan Caldwell to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
Plattsburgh could not fend off the Tigers, as Dagg scored the game-tying goal with the Cardinals’ down a skater. Ariane Yokoyama and Traci Galbraith picked up assists on the goal.
R.I.T. (17-0-1, 10-0-1 ECAC West) outshot the Cardinals, 42-26. Plattsburgh goaltender Mandy Mackrell recorded 40 saves. Tigers’ goalie Laura Chamberlain turned away 24 shots.
The two teams return to the ice tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the second game of the weekend series.
