Cardinals Score Twice in Last Minute to Defeat Brockport

Weidlein Nets Game-Winner with 28 Seconds Remaining

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Pete Morgan and Luke Weidlein scored 9 seconds apart with under a minute to play as the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team eked out a 16-15 victory Saturday over the College at Brockport in the Cardinals' State University of New York Athletic Conference opener at the Field House Lacrosse Complex. The visiting Golden Eagles drop to 6-4 overall, including 0-2 in the SUNYAC, while Plattsburgh improves to 9-2 on the year.

Matt Andon-McLane came off the Brockport bench to lead all scorers with five goals, plus three assists. Andy Hilton (2 assists) and Nate Thomas (1 assist) added four goals apiece for the Golden Eagles, who led in ground balls 45 to 38.

Weidlein finished with three goals and five assists for an eight-point afternoon, and Morgan had four goals and two assists. Kyle Norchi and Tommy Kilderry each contributed three goals.

Brockport took a 15-14 lead on a man-up goal by Andon-McLane on a feed from former Cardinal Jay Clifford with 1:08 left. After Morgan tied it 15-all with 37 seconds remaining, Ryan Price won the ensuing face-off and fed a pass to Weidlein for the game-winner with 0:28 showing on the clock.

Brockport's Kyle Crosley was huge in goal by making 22 saves. Logan Carpenter stopped 14 for the Cardinals, who outshot Brockport 61 to 40.

Price scooped up 14 ground balls and had two assists, both after winning face-offs. Kyle Burton led the Golden Eagles with 14 ground balls. Price and Burton took the majority of face-offs for their respective teams, with Price edging him 18 to 16 at the "X."

Neither team had more than a two-goal lead. Plattsburgh led 2-0 in the first quarter and Brockport had a 10-8 advantage in the third. Today marked the seventh comeback victory of the season for the Cardinals.
